How To Prepare For Your Excavator Rental

If you've made the decision to rent an excavator instead of purchasing one for your firm, you have made a wise choice. However, if you want to get the most out of your rental, you need to ensure you're prepared to use the excavator. From where you're using the equipment to how you'll transport it, there are several things you want to do to align with this goal:

Assess Your Tasks

Consider whether you're looking to rent the excavator for a single project or you plan to use the excavator over a period of time. This step is crucial because it will offer you a good indication as to the type of excavator that you need to rent.

For example, you might be prepping the ground for a foundation, but at the next project you might be prepping the ground for utility installation. If you're looking to rent the excavator for a longer period, you want to select a unit that is versatile enough to meet the job demand needs for each of your tasks.

Tap Your Team

You can save a considerable amount of money by tapping into your team to see if you already have someone on the team that is skilled and equipped to operate the excavator. Excavators are large, powerful tools that can create serious safety hazards if you don't know what you're doing.

Even more, if you're not using the excavator the correct way, you could experience site problems that will affect the project long-term, including not digging deep enough based on the job specifications. Find someone who has the right skill level on your team so you don't have to find an operator elsewhere.

Think About Transportation

Make sure you think about transportation before you rent the excavator. If you're renting a compact excavator, you might be able to use a standard trailer to transport the equipment. However, if it's a full-size excavator, you will need to arrange for transportation.

In some instances, the rental company may be able to deliver the equipment and pick it up for you. If this option isn't available, you can rent additional equipment to transport the excavator to and from your job site safely.

When you're prepared for the excavator, you can better ensure you get the most from the contractor equipment rental. Don't hesitate to ask the rental company for assistance if you need it to make sure you have everything taken care of.
